Some knowledge of the reaction of nitrous acid with the amino-group was already in existence, and it was known that aminobenzoic acid could be converted into hydroxybenzoic acid by the action of warm aqueous nitrous acid, for which reason Kolbe had sug-gested to Griess that in like manner picramic acid might be converted into a hydroxy-derivative. In some reactions, it is necessary to use acetic acid as a solvent. () This is particularly important where condensation of an aromatic aldehyde and urea leads to precipitation of an insoluble bisureide derivative, i.e., ArCH(NHCONH2)2, (7) which might not react further along the desired pathway outlined in Scheme 1 when ethanol is used as.

The Zinc(II) complexes of acetoacetic acid hydrazide (AAAH), butyrylacetic acid hydrazide (BUTAH) and benzoylacetic acid hydrazide (BENZAH) were prepared and characterized by elemental analysis. The action of sodium hydroxide on some 4-hydroxy- and 4-methoxycoumarin derivatives has been studied and it has been found that either a benzoylacetic acid derivative or.

The successful synthesis of chiral amines from ketones using ω-transaminases has been shown in many cases in the last two decades. In contrast, the amination of β-keto acids is a special and relatively new challenge, as they decompose easily in aqueous solution. To avoid this, transamination of the more stable β-keto esters would be Benzoylacetic acid and some of its derivatives book interesting by: 4.

The condensation of 4-ethylacetylresorcinol with α-methyl, α-ethyl, α-propyl, α-butyl and α-allylaceto-acetic esters as well as benzoylacetic ester has shown that this ketone is much reactive as contrasted with resacetophenone, thus showing that the Pechmann Reaction is not hindered by negative groups in the γ-position of the resorcinol molecule.

It is impossible to write any single text-book which shall contain within its two covers a thorough treatment of &ny one of these branches, owing to the vast amount of information that has been accumulated. The need is rather for a series of text-books dealing more or less comprehensively with each branch of chemistry.
